WHAT IS THE ERC?
The federal government established the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) to provide a refundable employment tax credit to help businesses with the cost of keeping staff employed in 2020 and 2021.
WHO CAN QUALIFY?
IThe ERC is available to trades or businesses whose operations were subject to a full or partial suspension of operations on account of governmental orders, or who experienced a significant decline in gross receipts during the pandemic.
WHAT IS THE ERC FUND?
The ERC is a refundable payroll tax credit that can be as high as $5,000 per employee in 2020 and as high as $21,000 per employee in 2021.
HOW DOES THE ERC WORK?
The Employee Retention Credit is a fully refundable tax credit that eligible employers claim against certain employment taxes. It is not a loan and does not have to be paid back. For most taxpayers, the refundable credit is in excess of the payroll taxes paid in a credit-generating period.
WHEN CAN I CLAIM THE CREDIT?
These credits may deliver cash flow for your business as soon as you claim them. You can file for this credit for every quarter of 2021 on your form 941 filing and may also receive an advance payment of a portion of the credit.
